The Circular Construction Accelerator (CCA) supports businesses in the construction sector to innovate, develop and scale materials, technologies, and practices in the construction sector that follow circular economy principles.

Changing local government regulations, evolving carbon emissions reduction requirements, and an ongoing growing market for regenerative solutions, are driving an increased demand for sustainable building solutions across British Columbia. The accelerator is structured to support businesses in the sector by providing tailored support, expert advice, and comprehensive resources towards advancing circular practices.

The program aims to support participating businesses by enhancing competitiveness, fostering export opportunities and partnership, and driving job creation and revenue growth.

Circular Economy in Construction

A circular built environment designs out waste and strives to capture the maximum value of products and materials through their full lifecycle. It is based on three key principles:

  • ELIMINATE waste by designing it out through upstream interventions
  • OPTIMIZE materials and resources by extending the life of buildings and products and recapturing value at end-of-life
  • REGENERATE natural systems by emphasizing renewable energy and materials

The Journey

  1. Intake – Businesses apply and are accepted into the program.

  4. Measurement – The impacts are assessed.
  5. Spotlight – Company successes are showcased to the wider industry and general public.

Eligibility

The program is open to businesses supporting the built environment in British Columbia that are wanting to integrate circular principles into their products or operations, such as:

  • Salvaging, reusing and upcycling of Materials
  • Reducing use of virgin materials and minimizing Waste
  • Designing for adaptability and deconstruction
