Canada’s construction, renovation, and demolition sector contributes an estimated $141 billion to GDP while generating enormous material waste, and wood is among the largest recoverable portions of it. Building on foundational work by Environment and Climate Change (ECCC) Canada, this Light House study maps CRD wood recovery across the country and identifies more than 250 small and medium-sized enterprises salvaging, processing, and reselling reclaimed wood. While the technical solutions largely exist, what constrains the market is systemic, including poor visibility into wood flows, inconsistent material quality, thin processing infrastructure, and weak end markets for higher-value uses.
