Vancouver Public Library Central

Project Description

The Vancouver Public Library (VPL) Central Branch, located in the Vancouver Central Business District, is an iconic nine-story rectangular building surrounded by a free-standing, elliptical, colonnaded wall. Light House performed LEED certification management for the design and renovation of floors 8 & 9, to improve the building’s environmental performance and user experience. The renovation was in collaboration Cornelia Oberlander, and allows public access to the building’s existing, highly sought after green roof, which she originally designed. The project was successful, attaining LEED-CI v.1.0 Gold certification, and incorporated WELL v1.0 Feature 87: Beauty and Design I, for creating a biophilic environment that positively impacts the mood and comfort level of occupants.
